“People who can put themselves in the place of other people who can understand the workings of their minds, need never worry about what the future has in store for them”- Owen D. Young
And this happened truly with today’s Pune Rock Star, Amol Sawant who is a Singer and Guitarist. Because he used to hear the feedbacks of his friends and family and worked on that. Talking about his childhood that when he had started singing and what actually inspired him to sing, he said, “Of course it was my passion since my childhood but my voice wasn’t that good that I could sing. I have been rejected from the group song in my school being told that meri awaaj bhains ki tarah hai unse nahi match ho pati, chorus ke liye bhi nikal dete the”
Isn’t it quite surprising that the person who used to get rejected for his voice and now has been the rock star of such a big city like Pune? Amol Sawant, who is from the defense background has done his schooling from KVs of several cities. It was his 6th std when for the first time his teacher had liked his beats and appreciated. Later in the same school, Amol wanted the drum to play and got the same because now his teachers were also interested to listen to his beats. Consequently, after his immense hard work and dedication, he got a chance to play the drum at the national level in his 8th grade. And now that passion has started to blossom.
As we all know the education system of our Great India where we give the very first priority to our board examinations. And It happened the same way with Amol. He couldn’t concentrate on his passion for two years during his junior college because of the board examinations. And the only reason of this is that he had to concentrate on his studies because he also wanted to be in the rat race of pursuing engineering.
It was during his engineering when his sister wanted to play the guitar so she joined a class to learn the same. But her IIT preparations and classed didn’t allow her to do so. We can say it was now the second-hand gift to Amol that he can continue the class as fee had already been paid there. He joined the classes and learned to play the Guitar.
“Guitar ke baad mujhe harmonium ka chaska laga and I demanded to purchase the same to my mom. She took me to the shop but seeing there a piano I went to it and began playing with it happily. Seeing the happiness on my face my mom asked me that we were there to purchase the Harmonium. I told her that Piano was the best and she instantly headed towards the billing counter to pay for it even if it was costlier than the Harmonium. Asking about the money where she got from, She said that agar mera beta best hai to uske liye chije bhi best hongi”, Amol reminisces.
Talking about the time when he had precisely started learning music he said, “There was a Sir whose financial condition was not that good. He used to give the classes in lesser amount of fees and I learnt the Notations of classical from him only”
He used to practice singing a lot after the class. He used to sing at his home and his neighbors and people of the society used to listen it. And from here his profession started because then he had been a good and melodic singer. Once his neighbor came to his home following his melodious voice and enquired about him. That person met him and appreciated and even offered him to sing in his corporate company.
It was his first show in a professional way in an MNC. But before this, he used to sing in the little inauguration of Vada Pav and Saloon shop etc.
His friend used to say, “Amol, Bhai tu Arijit Singh ki tarah gata hai”
When he shared this with his mum, she replied,”Mera beta Arijit Singh nai, usse badhiya gaata hai, mera puttar unique hai”
It was his mom only who had worked a lot to make him learn music because she herself was a singer in her school days.
“My mum has been my only inspiration for what I am today. I would have been nothing without the guidance of her. She always taught me to be a good human being. She is the only mentor of my life”, he recalls.
Talking about his college days he said, “I really miss those days when my friends used to visit Lonavala and other places. And I used to practice at my home because I had to prove myself that I can do it and my voice is not that like buffalo”
Started his show with the charge of 200 bucks per hour in the inaugural functions of Vada Pav and Saloon shops, now he charges 1000 bucks per minute for his show. Yes you read it right, 1000/.
When I asked about his future plan, he said, “I want to help the needy artists who are genuine. Because many are there who claim to be failed making some pretence which I really don’t like. They didn’t succeed because they didn’t practice and work hard”
“I understand the importance of my dream. Because I never went to my dream girl just because I had to opt my dream first. There are a lot of sacrifices in the life to achieve something. Getting your dream come true is not that easy. Yes, I haven’t achieved that much yet, but it’s just the beginning. A lot to come yet”, he said being emotional.
He shared one quote with me which his mum always used to share with him, “Life lambi nai badi honi Chaiye”
It is truly said that your perseverance and hard work pays off if not early then some late but it does for sure.
