Most of us don’t like KHICHDI but what if we get know that it has become our NATIONAL FOOD. Yes, on November 4, 2017, Khichdi has been declared India’s national food.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union minister of food processing industries has tweeted: “Enough khichdi cooked up on a fictitious ‘National Dish’.  It has only been put for a record entry in #WorldFoodIndia.”

Sanjeev Kapoor on November 4, made a world record by cooking 800 kgs of khichdi as a part of World Food India Fair.  The cooked khichdi has been distributed to about 60,000 orphan children as well as guests present at the event. The khichdi also distributed to the Heads of Foreign Missions in India along with recipe.

It is fully all time food. It has not been contaminated by overtly Mughal influences like the biryani. The word itself is derived from the Sanskrit khiccha and it’s a key part of an Ayurvedic diet. It is given as bhog to the gods. It’s mentioned in the Charak Samhita and has real historic standing in India unlike, say, the invention of head transplant surgery.

On November 4, over 800kg of khichdi, a mishmash of rice and pulses, was prepared at the World Food India in a bid to create a world record and to popularise the dish as ‘Brand India food’. This decision was announced by Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who said “khichdi is the wonder staple food of India”. As soon as the announcement was made, Twitter erupted with all kinds of posts related to the topic, especially the hilarious ones. While some called the decision “a joke” others just reacted by posting sarcastic tweets.

The World Food India-2017 is an international mega food event being organised in New Delhi on November 3-5. More than 200 global companies and 450 domestic companies has participated at the event. Japan, Denmark and Germany are partner countries in the World Food India-2017 while Italy and the Netherlands are ‘focus countries’. The event has be en inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that khichdi has been declared as national food and does people want that Raita would be declared as the national drink.
